Solo by Michael James

It all started in 2008 when Michael James began to develop card flourishes. In a world that is overflowing with extra long dribbles and unnatural geometric displays, Michael favors a classic approach where fluid and expressive motions are top priority in a card flourish. That is what you’ll find in Solo: Ten unique flourishes that demonstrate smoothness and articulation above anything else.

One of the most comprehensive cardistry projects ever produced.

A production that started nearly eight months ago has in fact been in the works for four years. Michael's style is inspired by card mavericks Brian Tudor, the Buck Twins, and Kevin Ho. These aren’t cuts you’re going to learn and forget in a day. Each cut is vastly different from the other, giving you a diverse collection that will broaden your arsenal.

Solo is divided into three categories: Signature Flourishes, Bonus Collection, and Special Features. It contains over 90 minutes of cardistry training.

In the Signature Flourishes section, you'll find ten unique flourishes: Arriflex, Ekklesia, Collective, Elysium, Twistor, Tidalwave, Reich, Reinvention, Mysterium, and Zero. Nine of the flourishes are two-handed cuts and one flourish is a single card flourish. Each flourish includes an introduction, performance, verbal explanation, and slow movement performance.

The Bonus Collection includes four bonus moves: Upload, Skydive, Whirlpool, and Elite. These are short, simple flourishes designed to perform on the fly. Each move contains a performance, overview, and verbal explanation.

We made a conscious effort to include as much special features as possible. What's included: Original Trailer, Seamless Motion, Jikh and James, Rediscover Identity, Solo Outtakes, Interview with Michael James, and Credits with anamorphic footage.

What about Project One?

Michael published some of his ideas in an EP-like production called Project One. While he retained some of the cuts and ideas from Project One, you’re going to find a lot of new cuts and concepts that are exclusive to Solo. Overall, it’s a completely new and fresh experience.

The Dead Cut with Jason England

The crimp is a staple move in the fundamentals of card magic – it allows you to control any number of cards to the top or bottom of the deck, with just a single, simple cut: a "Dead Cut."

Multiple types of crimps are taught in detail by one of the industry’s leading card mechanics, Jason England. Whether you are a beginner, or a seasoned professional, you will find a suitable technique that fits your performance style.

As you push the card through the deck, the back design visually changes.

From FISM winner Mathieu Bich comes an astoundingly visual change. You take a card from the deck and show the front and the back. You slowly place it in the center of the deck and begin to push it through. As the card penetrates the other end, it changes into another back design. The card can clearly be seen sticking out BOTH sides of the deck with a different back design on each end.

Do you believe in fate or destiny?

You remove an envelope from your pocket. It is sealed. There are no secret compartments or hidden flaps. You explain that inside this envelope, there is one prediction. One card, sealed. No matter what the spectator says or does, nothing can change the outcome. It is fate. It is determined.

You give the spectator a deck of cards. They examine. They shuffle.

You are completely sure of your prediction, and to prove it, you tear open the envelope, showing a face down card. You are committed. And to make things even MORE fair, you turn the card over. They see the identity. They see the future.

After they finish shuffling, you ask the spectator to start dealing cards one by one onto your left hand. Whenever they feel like it, they can stop - and deal the NEXT card face down onto your right hand.

When the moment feels right - when intuition strikes - they stop dealing.

They deal the next card face down onto your right hand, leaving just two cards: your exposed prediction, and their face down selection. Suspense builds. How could they POSSIBLY match? This is what we imagined when we first heard of Rapture. We didn’t think it could be possible. If you could perform REAL magic, this is what it would look like. Rapture is a miraculous change, where a card box can appear and disappear in the blink of an eye. You show the front and back of a card box. Suddenly with a jolt, the entire box disappears, leaving only the cards - a normal deck - in your hands.
